Vinyl Flooring Maintenance & Care

Keep your Vinyl floors looking their best for years to come.

Proper Cleaning & Maintenance

Proper care will help keep your SPC and LVT flooring looking its best for years to come. Regularly sweep, vacuum or dry mop to remove dust and grit, and clean with a damp microfibre mop and a suitable pH-neutral vinyl floor cleaner. Avoid excessive water and always wipe up spills promptly.

Protect your floor with felt furniture pads and non-staining entrance mats, and never drag heavy furniture across the surface. Avoid steam cleaners, abrasive products, bleach, ammonia, wax and polish, as these may damage or dull the floor.

How to clean Vinyl flooring ?

Now that your new SPC or LVT floors are installed, the next question is: how do you keep them looking their best?

Keep your SPC or LVT floors looking their best with regular sweeping, damp mopping and prompt spill cleanup. Use a pH-neutral vinyl cleaner and avoid excess water, steam and abrasive products.

  • Remove dust, dirt and grit regularly using a dry microfibre mop, soft broom or vacuum with the beater bar switched off.
  • When needed, clean with a damp microfibre mop and a suitable pH-neutral vinyl floor cleaner, following the cleaner’s dilution instructions.
  • Wipe up spills promptly.
  • Use minimal water and avoid soaking the floor or leaving standing water.
  • Avoid steam cleaners, abrasive cleaners, wax, polish and products that leave a film or residue.
  • Occasional deeper cleaning helps remove built-up dirt and keep your SPC and LVT flooring looking its best.
  • Use a damp microfibre mop and a suitable pH-neutral vinyl floor cleaner, following the recommended dilution instructions.
  • Avoid flooding or saturating the floor, and never use steam cleaners, harsh chemicals, abrasive products, wax or polish.
  • Remove any cleaner residue as directed by the cleaning product’s instructions, and allow the floor to dry fully before walking on it.
  • Wipe up spills promptly with a clean, damp cloth.
  • For stubborn marks, use a suitable pH-neutral vinyl floor cleaner on a soft cloth, following the cleaner’s instructions.
  • Always test cleaning products on a small, inconspicuous area first.
  • Avoid abrasive pads, sharp tools, bleach, ammonia and harsh solvents.
  • Remove any cleaner residue as directed and dry the area thoroughly.
VINYL FLOORING CARE GUIDE

Choosing the Right Rug for Your Vinyl Flooring

Rugs add warmth, comfort and style to your space, but not all rugs are suitable for vinyl flooring. Choosing the right materials and backing can help prevent discolouration, scratches and moisture-related damage.
  • Rubber or latex backing: May react with vinyl flooring and cause permanent discolouration or staining.
  • Rough or hard edges: Can scratch or abrade the protective surface of your vinyl flooring.
  • Thick, non-breathable rugs: May trap moisture underneath, potentially affecting the floor or subfloor.
  • Discolouration or staining: Certain rubber and latex compounds can chemically react with vinyl surfaces.
  • Scratches or surface damage: Rough rug backings and trapped grit can wear or scratch the floor.
  • Moisture-related damage: Trapped moisture can affect adhesive, joints or the subfloor and may contribute to lifting or buckling.
  • Natural fibre rugs: Cotton, wool or jute rugs may be suitable when paired with a soft, breathable, non-staining backing.
  • Vinyl-safe backing: Choose rugs specifically labelled as suitable for vinyl flooring.
  • Protective rug pads: Use a breathable, non-staining rug pad approved for use on vinyl floors.
FINfloor Tip: Always check that your rug or rug pad is suitable for vinyl flooring. Keep the floor beneath rugs clean and dry, and periodically lift rugs to check for trapped moisture or grit.

Everyday Protection

Protecting Your Vinyl Floor

Small everyday habits help protect your vinyl flooring from scratches, wear and moisture-related damage.

Entrance Mats

Use non-staining, vinyl-safe entrance mats to trap dirt and grit. Avoid rubber-backed mats, which can discolour vinyl flooring.

Felt Pads

Fit felt pads beneath furniture legs and use soft, non-staining castors suitable for vinyl flooring to help prevent scratches and indentations.

UV Protection

Use blinds or curtains to limit prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and excessive heat, helping to protect your floor from fading and heat-related damage.

Rearrange Periodically

Occasionally reposition rugs and movable furniture to help distribute wear evenly.
